IT Support Specialist

Upper Iowa University is seeking an IT Support Specialist I to provide frontline technical support to its community, including students, faculty, and staff. The role involves resolving computing device-related incidents and service requests, supporting classroom technology, and maintaining hardware and software systems.

Responsibilities

Respond to, troubleshoot, and resolve service tickets submitted to the ITS Help Center; escalate major or unresolved incidents according to established procedures
Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, peripherals, and local software systems across the global university environment
Assist with the design, implementation, installation, and maintenance of classroom and instructional technology solutions based on stakeholder input
Provide recommendations for audio/visual (A/V) equipment and assist with physical installation, setup, and ongoing maintenance
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and end-user issues for both on-site and remote users
Instruct users in the effective use of computing equipment, software, and instructional technologies; assist with the development of training materials and procedures
Maintain accurate cradle-to-grave documentation of university technology assets
Apply system updates, approved configurations, and endpoint protection tools as directed
Validate user identity during support interactions and reinforce university security policies and access control practices
Identify and promptly escalate suspected security incidents or policy violations to appropriate ITS personnel
Safeguard sensitive student, faculty, and administrative information in compliance with institutional, state, and federal data protection requirements
Work with ITS-approved vendors and the Business Office to order approved software, hardware, and A/V equipment
Attend staff meetings and provide updates to supervisors as needed
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and responsibilities while working independently and as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical documentation, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Working understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) practices and guidelines
Ability to obtain CompTIA A+ certification within the first year of employment

Preferred

Associate's degree in Information Technology or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience will be considered
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field is a plus
Prior CompTIA A+ certification
Experience supporting remote users
Experience supporting audio/visual and classroom technology
Experience supporting instructional technologies
Experience working in a higher education environment
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to small and medium-sized groups
