Responsibilities
The selected candidate will bring their Cryogenic Fluid Management (CFM) expertise to NASA programs such as the Human Lander System (HLS) and Fission Surface Power (FSP) projects, which will include the following support:
HLS Insight Risk Reduction Activities, including work with Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV) operating pressure increases, thermal / fluid analyses in Gasifier Feed Tanks, and thermal / fluid analyses for Turbo-Gasifier development
Work with the NASA Technical Monitor and the HLS team which includes thermal, structures, and systems engineering team members
Analysis and updates will need performed on the conceptual design for tank internal systems
Assist with the tracking of cryogenic fluid and gas propellant inventories within the propellant tanks
The selected candidate will also provide thermal analysis support to the Fission Surface Power (FSP) Technology Development project under the Technology Demonstration Mission (TDM) program
NASA is working with the Department of Energy (DOE) and industry to design a fission power system that would provide a future lunar demonstration will pave the way for sustainable operations and even base camps on the Moon and Mars
Thermal energy produced during nuclear fission must be carefully managed to ensure the safety of both the astronauts and the equipment itself
The scope of work may include:
Develop and maintain a Thermal Desktop model of the FSP Government Reference Design system and a heat pipe thermal transport that would be compatible with a capable lander
Development of thermal models for various regions of the lunar surface
Guide thermal system-oriented risk assessments, including risks of lunar dust to thermal systems
