Tax Examiner
The State of Utah is seeking a Tax Examiner to join the Utah State Tax Commission's Miscellaneous Taxes Division. The role involves performing complex audits to ensure compliance with state tax laws and conducting outreach training for tax professionals and the public.

Responsibilities
Interpreting tax laws, rules and policies
Ensuring compliance with miscellaneous taxes
Evaluating and reviewing business reports, tax files and previous audits
Scheduling and conducting audits with taxpayers
Auditing taxpayer records
Interviewing taxpayers
Preparing audit reports
Providing training
Answering tax professionals questions as a part of a contact center
Participate in outreach training to educate tax professionals and the public
Qualification
Required
Must be current on your state and federal tax filings
Pass a criminal background check
At least two years of experience reviewing fuel taxes
Knowledge of the theory and practice of laws
Ability to do extensive research
Ability to communicate effectively
Personal tax filings and vehicle registrations must be current and complete
A conditional offer of employment will be made pending a satisfactory completion of a FBI level background investigation
Preferred
Has working knowledge of the Utah State Tax Commission policies and procedures
Four or more years of experience with auditing
A bachelor's degree or higher in a related field of study in Accounting
Transcripts need to be included with the application
