Learning & Development Lead, Content and Instructional Design US Oncology

The Learning & Development Lead is responsible for designing and improving learning experiences for the US Oncology Sales organization, leading instructional design efforts across various modalities.

Responsibilities

Partner with US Oncology Sales Leadership, Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Compliance/Legal/Regulatory (as applicable), and Training stakeholders to define role-based learning needs and annual curriculum roadmaps
Build structured learning journeys for Field Sales roles (e.g., new hire onboarding, advanced selling, account planning, disease state mastery, launch readiness, competitive readiness)
Establish learning objectives, proficiency standards, and assessment strategy aligned to performance outcomes
Lead analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) of learning solutions; apply adult learning principles and evidence-based instructional design
Develop content across formats: facilitator guides, participant guides, eLearning/storyboards, job aids, microlearning, video, virtual ILT, quizzes, scenario-based learning, role plays, and simulations
Convert complex scientific/clinical content into clear, compliant, field-ready training assets with strong narrative flow and practical application
Ensure accessibility and usability standards are met (e.g., inclusive design, readability, mobile-friendly learning where appropriate)
Enable facilitators (internal trainers/SMEs) with train-the-trainer materials, facilitation guides, and session design for consistent delivery
Design practice and coaching toolkits that reinforce skill transfer (e.g., call models, objection handling, messaging practice, field coaching guides)
Support national meetings, POAs, and launch events with learning design and content packages
Define and monitor learning effectiveness using Kirkpatrick/Phillips-aligned measures (reaction, learning, behavior/application, business impact where feasible)
Implement knowledge/skills assessments and calibration rubrics (e.g., certification, message mastery, role-play scoring)
Use feedback loops, data, and field performance insights to iterate content, reduce time-to-proficiency, and improve training adoption
Lead cross-functional content development timelines, governance, and review cycles to deliver on time and within scope
Maintain and update project estimates and forecasting
Manage content versioning, review documentation, and approval workflows consistent with internal policies
Influence without authority
Lead on vendor selection and relationship management
Partner closely with business and functional leadership and HR, to continue to develop teams, drive new hire training and support the business

Required

Minimum BS/BA degree with MS/MBA preferred
6+ years of pharmaceutical sales, and/or account management experience or relevant clinical experience
Specific expertise with 3+ years in oncology/hematology
Minimum of 2 years of pharmaceutical field training experience, alternatively, experience in other relevant areas such as marketing, sales operations, or related fields
Significant experience with CRM, sales and account management planning tools, territory and data analytics
Demonstrated experience translating complex scientific/medical content into effective, learner-centered training
Strong expertise in instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, backward design), adult learning theory, and blended learning approaches
Proven project management capability across multiple stakeholders and tight timelines
Exceptional writing/editing and visual communication skills; high attention to detail
Proven track record of leading successful initiatives and teams as well as influencing without authority
Experience with project management, instructional design and training content development
Demonstrated effective leadership and people management skills
Proven ability to hold others accountable to deadlines and responsibilities
Exceptional planning and organizational skills
Creative problem-solving skills
Collaborative work style, capable of working effectively in a team environment across departments and organizations levels
Ability to develop long-term training programs while remaining focused and deeply involved in executing the immediate next steps to get there
Exceptional problem-solving and leadership skills; master at presenting at all levels of the organization
Ability to set priorities, deliver on deadlines and develop workflow processes and tasks in an evolving, dynamic marketplace
Strong analytical skills and budget management
Understands and connects the latest adult learning techniques and issues in large organizations to deliver tailored strategies and frameworks to a diverse set of stakeholders
Familiar with next generation digital solutions for call planning, training, coaching and capability building
Skilled in Microsoft suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred

1-3 years of clinical experience (i.e. Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistance, Pharm. D.) is a plus
Experience with design, development and implementation of innovation and training strategies to deliver results
Strong time management skills, providing strategic coaching and supervision
