They are seeking a Summer Intern in Software Engineering to work on sim realism evaluation methods, design novel methods for quantifying simulation realism, and integrate these methods with internal simulation tooling.

Responsibilities

Studying and surveying existing sim realism eval methods at Waymo and in literature

Designing novel methods for quantifying the realism of simulations

Implementing the new methods, running experiments, and comparing the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches on Waymo datasets

Productionizing the new methods and integrating it with Waymo internal simulation tooling

Qualification

Required

Progressing towards a Masters or PhD Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with a graduation date in late 2026 or 2027

Solid skills in CS fundamentals or math

Experience in evaluating machine learning models or data-driven systems

Familiarity with SQL, Python/C++

Previous internship experience

Experience with simulation systems or its evaluation
