Responsibilities
Manufacturing Documentation : Create detailed control drawings for external fabrication partners, including laser cutting, CNC machining, and welding operations. Drawings must provide complete specifications—dimensions, tolerances, material callouts, and welding symbols—to enable accurate first-time fabrication
Structural Analysis : Perform finite element analysis to validate that weldments, lifting fixtures, and structural assemblies meet or exceed safety requirements prior to fabrication
Robotic Tooling Design : Develop end-of-arm tooling and gripping systems for ABB industrial robots. Verify designs through simulation to ensure proper clearances, motion paths, and cycle times
Custom Mechanical Solutions : Design specialized mechanisms—including cams, vacuum systems, and application-specific grippers—to address unique construction automation challenges
Technical Ownership : Manage engineering change orders, bills of materials, and project timelines. Serve as the primary point of contact for technical questions from vendors and fabrication partners
Qualification
Required
5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development, machinery design, or similar applications
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred; demonstrated ability to learn new CAD platforms quickly is essential)
Experience designing fabricated weldments and producing manufacturing drawings for external vendors
Working knowledge of structural analysis methods and FEA tools
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Preferred
Experience with industrial robotics or automation systems
Familiarity with ABB RobotStudio or similar simulation tools
Background in heavy equipment or material handling systems
