Temporary Aquatics Program Coordinator

Loyola Marymount University is seeking a Temporary Aquatics Program Coordinator to assist with the organization and administration of aquatic programs. The role involves managing club sport operations, mentoring student staff, coordinating training, and ensuring the smooth operation of the Campus Recreation pool and programs.

Responsibilities

Assist and mentor 5 student aquatic managers, 50+ student lifeguards, and 10+ student swim instructors
Coordinate in-service training and appropriate certifications for all aquatic staff
Coordinate swimming lessons with student staff based on pool availability for members of the LMU Community and external clients
Serve as the liaison between Campus Recreation and external rental groups
Communicate with Campus Recreation leadership in order to maintain all pool and aquatic program equipment and initiate repair or replacement as needed with LMU Facilities Management or external vendors
Ensure accurate Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) related to inclement weather, medical emergencies, facility incidents, etc
Support daily pool operations, keeping in close contact with student staff and stakeholders
Perform other duties as assigned or requested

Required

Typically a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Leisure Management, Physical Education, Sports Administration, College Personnel Services or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of basic risk management practices as they relate to aquatics recreational and competitive sports, and developing cooperative working relationships
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written; copy editing and layout; oral presentations to diverse audiences. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to serve as a role model for student employees
Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft Office and league scheduling software

Preferred

Preferred two years demonstrated practical experience in an aquatics or swimming programs. Experience with student staff development and personnel management
Experience with and an understanding of supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in a university setting preferred
Familiarity with the purpose and mission of Jesuit higher education and the university's institutional commitment to the Catholic tradition
Knowledge and experience within the following areas preferred: Student work-study programs; the developmental needs of college students and how to support them; activity planning in a university setting; principles of management and staff supervision; public relations; and conflict management/problem solving techniques
