Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate assigned substation engineering capital projects (scope development, design development, manage project cost, interdepartmental coordination, et cetera)
Create work orders for substation projects
Coordinate substation engineering activities with Southern Company Services Design (T&PS) organization
Review substation designs by SCS and/or contract engineering firms
Provide regular updates/communication on the project status. Provide proactive communication and recommend solutions when problems arise that will impact costs, schedule, or external public
Help monitor and provide budget variance on department capital actuals
Provide input on development of 5-year capital construction budget and schedule
Provide assistance to others related to substation engineering issues – Both Capital and O&M
Support other areas with development of conceptual projects (provide estimates, preliminary designs, equipment investigations, et cetera)

Required

Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited school is required, Electrical Engineering preferred
Minimum of 3 years of Power Utility experience required
Experience in Distribution or Transmission required
General knowledge of power systems and substation equipment, transmission planning, operations, maintenance and/or construction
Strong knowledge of electrical and civil engineering principles
Project Management Processes
Ability to use good judgment to make sound decisions
Ability to adapt to changing demands and reprioritize as necessary
Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks on a routine basis. Excellent project management skills and organization skills
Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to interact with all levels of management are necessary along with good interpersonal and business skills
Excellent safety record and adherence to the company's safety philosophy
Broad knowledge of PCs and other technology used in engineering and design
Ability to learn different computer applications – STOMP, TEAMS, ORACLE, PRIMAVERA, MAXIMO, et cetera

Preferred

Professional Engineer (PE) certification is a plus
Substation construction, design or maintenance or Protection & Control Field Services experience is a plus
Knowledge of the Southern Company transmission system, distribution system and/or protective relaying is a plus
Transmission Construction Practices and Standards (a plus)
Budgeting and Accounting Processes and Policies (desirable)
