Responsibilities
Ensures accurate and timely processing, recording, and reconciliation of accounting transactions, including general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, and related accounts
Prepares financial reports, analyses, and schedules to document and communicate financial status and results. Conducts related financial analysis and research in collaboration with others in the department and across the College
Creates and maintains process documentation and supports the design, documentation, and execution of internal controls consistent with Agency Risk Management and Internal Controls (ARMICS) requirements
Ensures operations are conducted in compliance with Virginia Community College System (VCCS) policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements
Participates in year-end close activities and supports the timely and accurate completion of required financial reporting
Assists with internal and external audit requests by preparing documentation, schedules, and analyses
Identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and consistency
Utilizes complex automated financial systems and reporting tools effectively, such as PeopleSoft/AIS, Cardinal, or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and participates, as appropriate, in system implementations or enhancements
Is cross trained on various Business Office processes to provide backup support and continuity of operations
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated track record of effectiveness as a professional accountant
Experience in general accounting working with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or governmental accounting principles
Experience analyzing, reconciling, and reporting accounting information
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Experience with Commonwealth policies and systems including eVA, AIS and/or Cardinal
Experience processing disbursements
Experience in Commonwealth procurement
Experience accounting for assets, leases, subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITAs), and/or component units
Knowledge of fund accounting, higher education finance, GASB, VCCS fiscal policies, and/or ARMICS requirements
CPA, CGFM, CMA, MBA, or comparable professional credentials
