Head of Product
Confidential company is seeking a Head of Product & QA to lead their non-dairy yogurt brand. The role involves overseeing product quality, managing production runs, and developing new products while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
Be 100% responsible for each cup of non-dairy yogurt produced
This requires oversight of the co-manufacturing facility, the ability to trouble shoot technical food science and process related issues, and have meticulous attention to detail
The role is also 100% responsible for the bench top development of all new products and formula changes to existing products, which will include sourcing raw materials, designing and leading plant trials, communicating cross functionally to keep projects on track, and working closely with existing ingredient suppliers and our co-manufacturer
This role is also responsible for updating process and specs with the copacker to make sure all products and processes are clearly defined and adhered to
Work and collaborate with teams across the organization internally and externally to achieve business goals
Communicate and provide updates as needed for visibility of project milestones, key metrics and advances
Escalate manufacturing issues as they arise and work proactively to ensure each production run creates first quality products
Maintain an environment of innovation and scientific excellence by staying abreast of technology / market insights, collaborating with external and internal partners and working with passion, intellectual curiosity, integrity and trust
Qualification
Required
Strong technical background with the ability to apply prior knowledge and product development and commercialization principles to drive successful trials and production runs
Strong bench top development skills as demonstrated by a proven track record for developing products in the natural and organic spaces
Experience scaling products from benchtop to full scale and overseeing production runs at a co-manufacturer
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Highly collaborative and detail-oriented
Ability to troubleshoot technical food science and process related issues
Meticulous attention to detail
Ability to source raw materials and design and lead plant trials
Ability to communicate cross functionally to keep projects on track
Ability to work closely with existing ingredient suppliers and co-manufacturer
Ability to update process and specs with the copacker
Ability to maintain an environment of innovation and scientific excellence
High level of computer proficiency with the ability to fully utilize MS Office and Google Office products and recipe development software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong project management skills
Ability to prioritize workload, multitask, and work with minimal oversight or direction
Adherence to safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace
Preferred
Strong background with plant-based foods, dairy, emulsions, hydrocolloids, plant based and animal proteins, and cultured products
Experience in a fast-paced food startup
Masters or PhD in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
At least 3 years developing products in the natural, organic and vegetarian/vegan categories
Strong preference for candidates with experience in developing plant-based products focused on dairy, egg, or meat replacement, or conventional dairy products
