Mechanical Engineer Intern - Summer 2026

Responsibilities

You will generate hypothesis, experimental and/or equipment design, and analysis of data to isolate glass melt defect mechanisms and test solutions
You will conduct hands on work in a laboratory, pilot or manufacturing environment. Note the environment can involve high temperatures and/or dirty environments
You will communicate project status and updates to both the project team and to management, including memos, technical reports and verbal presentations
You will maintain contacts with outside groups, such as consultants, universities, and other professional organizations, to facilitate problem identification and solutions

Required

Minimum of 2+ years working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering
No prior experience required. Previous industrial experience is a plus
Strong lab and experimental practices; can understand glass defect fundamentals and recognize deviations and implement routine solutions
Ability to collaborate and integrate solutions
Strong data analysis and visualization skills
Results oriented and high level of dedication. Able to work in any stage of innovation and handle risk of failure
Aim to learn new technologies and processes quickly

Preferred

Experience with Hot material process, such as melting and forming
Knowledge of glass process modeling capability and how to use modeling tools spanning from early stage innovation to late stage manufacturing
Knowledge of Corning processes and business systems as well as being passionate about learning new technologies
Experience with software, such as JMP, MatLab, MindJet, etc
Initiative and leadership skills
Ability to grow a network to get things done
Dedication, creativity and the passion to build and improve daily
Strong verbal and written communication skills
