Responsibilities
Direct staff and activities related to vector-borne disease epidemiology, prevention, surveillance, and control
Serve as the Chief of the Vector-Borne Disease Section
Conceive, organize, and direct complex research of a large scope addressing the epidemiology, prevention, and control of vector-borne diseases
Conduct and direct the analysis of scientific and technical information for many vector-borne diseases and vectors
Integrate scientific information into the decision-making process for surveillance, prevention, and control activities
Provide consultation to the Branch Chief and the Department on general vector-borne disease program goals and specific epidemiologic strategies
Qualification
Required
Master's Degree required to meet the minimum qualifications
Doctoral Degree required to meet the minimum qualifications
Ability to direct staff and activities related to vector-borne disease epidemiology, prevention, surveillance, and control
Experience in assessing and developing policies regarding vector-borne diseases
Ability to conceive, organize, and direct complex research of a large scope with a statewide impact
Experience in conducting and directing the analysis of scientific and technical information for vector-borne diseases
Ability to integrate scientific information into decision-making processes for surveillance, prevention, and control activities
Ability to provide consultation to the Branch Chief and the Department on vector-borne disease program goals and epidemiologic strategies
Eligibility to take and pass the examination for this classification if new to California State Service
Current state employees must complete and pass the examination for this classification to qualify for this position
California residency required for telework eligibility
Benefits
California’s Personal Leave Program (PLP 2025) reduces employees’ base pay by 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits monthly through June 2027.
Educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay.
