Aircraft Mechanic I or II - Aviation Division
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking a highly motivated Aircraft Mechanic I/II to support the inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of the agency’s aircraft fleet. This role involves performing diagnostic and repair work on various aircraft types, ensuring safe and reliable operations of the fleet.

Responsibilities
Travels with aircrew to perform aircraft maintenance-related activities and/or repair and retrieve grounded aircraft
Assembles and installs electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand tools and power tools
Conducts routine and non-routine aircraft maintenance inspections as required by regulations
Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and/or overhauls aircraft components and systems to include aircraft engines/assemblies involving electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Disassembles engines and inspects parts such as turbine blades and cylinders for corrosion, wear, warping, cracks and leaks using precision measuring instruments, magnetic inspection equipment
Inspects airframes for wear or other defects; checks for corrosion, distortion, and invisible cracks in the fuselage, wings, and tail, or propellers using magnetic inspection equipment
Repairs and replaces pumps, engines, propellers, instruments, landing gear, airframe, control surfaces, and/or fuel systems
Moves critical aircraft components using specialized equipment such as forklifts or overhead cranes
Reports completed maintenance and repair work to lead worker
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Provides assistance to other mechanics in maintenance or repair procedures
Qualification
Required
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
1 year Fixed/Rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work for Aircraft Mechanic I
3 years Fixed/Rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work for Aircraft Mechanic II
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Airframe Mechanic-Certificate
Powerplant Mechanic Cert
Federal Aviation Administration circulars, orders and regulations
Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair techniques
Repair and maintenance of hydraulic pumps
Preventive maintenance methods and procedures
Schematic electrical wiring
Mechanical systems, equipment operation and maintenance, repair techniques
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
Hazardous materials management methods and procedures
Applicable laws, rules, and regulations
Maintaining effective working relationships with others
Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components and subsystems
Prioritizing projects/workload and meeting deadlines
Maintaining logs and accurately recording work in progress
Communicating technical information effectively
Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
Diagnosing problems and repairing equipment to include electronic and mechanical components and subsystems according to defined codes and specifications
Read and work with color coded electrical wiring
Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions with noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions (fumes, dusts, odors, mists, gases or poor ventilation)
Subject to hazards such as moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals and works in narrow aisles and passageways
Climbing (ladders, stairs, scaffolding, etc) and Balancing (multiple surfaces, uneven walkways, etc)
Standing (long periods), Stooping/Kneeling (bending at the waist and/or resting/working on knees), Crouching (bending knees and spine) and Crawling (hands and feet/knees)
Reaching (extending in multiple directions), Pushing (to move objects/tools), Pulling (sustained force to move objects) and Lifting (above head and laterally)
Fingering (pinching, typing, working with fingers), Grasping (gripping tools with full hand) and Feeling (sensing size/ weight/temperature/ texture with hands)
Talking (expressing ideas with spoken words) and Hearing (perceive sound at normal speaking levels, receive oral communication)
Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading, visual inspection of small defects/parts, using measurement devices; and assembly or fabrication of parts
Operate machines (drill presses, power saws, etc.), motor vehicles and heavy equipment
Preferred
Candidates with an avionics heavy background, including troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of advanced avionics systems
