Machine Learning Engineer
Votely is building personalization infrastructure to help Americans discover civic actions aligned with their values. They are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to own the system end-to-end, from data pipelines to model training to production serving, with high ownership and direct founder access.

Responsibilities
Design and build our core recommendation system (retrieval, ranking, personalization)
Define success metrics and build experimentation infrastructure to measure what works
Own the full ML lifecycle: data collection, feature engineering, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring
Work closely with product and design to make ML outputs interpretable and actionable for users
Build reliable, scalable ML infrastructure that handles traffic spikes during election cycles
Make build-vs-buy decisions and integrate third-party ML services where appropriate
Qualification
Required
1+ years of experience building ML systems (industry or substantial personal/academic projects)
Strong Python skills and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
Solid understanding of recommendation systems, ranking models, or search relevance
Comfort with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred) and containerization (Docker)
Track record of shipping ML features to production (even in a class, hackathon, or side project)
Preferred
MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field
Experience with LLMs/embeddings for semantic search or content understanding
Background in NLP, particularly text classification or entity extraction
Experience at a startup or consumer product company
Familiarity with civic data, government APIs, or public datasets
