Upgrade Readiness & Architecture
Lead VIM/OCR impact assessment for S/4HANA 2025 (compatibility, add-ons, feature deprecations, and simplification items)
Validate OpenText VIM and OCR/IC version compatibility, add-on transport strategy, and S/4HANA upgrade path (feature parity, notes, patches)
Own the target architecture for Invoice Automation: VIM core, DP (Document Processing), Exception Handling, Approval workflows, Fiori apps, and integration with MM/SD/FI, AIF, IDoc/OData, ArchiveLink, and Output Management (BRF+)
Define authorization strategy (S/4HANA roles/catalogs, VIM roles, My Inbox/Fiori approvals) and segregation of duties
Configure VIM: Document Types, Process Types, Business Rules (BRF+), Approvals, Park/Post, DP document flow, 3-way match, vendor-specific tolerances, escalations/SLA timers, substitution rules
Enhance/extend with BAdIs/BTEs, BRF+ rules, and custom logic where needed; ensure ATC-clean code for S/4HANA 2025
Design and optimize OCR/IC (OpenText Intelligent Capture, SAP BTP Document Information Extraction, ABBYY, or other): templates, training sets, field mapping, confidence thresholds, and exception coding
Stabilize inbound channels: email, scan, EDI/cXML, supplier portals, and Commerce Automation interfaces where applicable
Establish monitoring & error handling: AIF, SLG1, SMQ1/SMQ2, ST22, VIM Analytics, and custom dashboards (e.g., SAP Analytics Cloud/Power BI)
Define and execute E2E test strategy: unit, integration, regression, and UAT across PO, non-PO, service entry scenarios, GR/IR, tax (domestic/cross-border), and currency
Build regression packs for VIM/OCR—covering duplicate detection, blocking conditions, price/qty variances, credit memos, down payments, and ERS
Automate critical test flows (e.g., Postman/Newman for APIs, UI regression with Cypress/Playwright where needed)
Plan data migration for in-flight DP documents, parked/posting status, approvals, indexes, and archive links; ensure reconciliation of GR/IR balances and open items
Coordinate cutover steps: job freeze/unfreeze, queues, output, OCR input buffers, approval rerouting, and rollback plans
Validate archiving strategy (ArchiveLink, retention/legal holds) and post-upgrade retrieval usability
Ensure SOX/SOD controls, complete audit trails for all invoice steps, and PII handling in OCR
Implement role redesign if required by S/4HANA 2025 catalogues/apps and My Inbox workflow behaviours
Align with Tax/Compliance (VAT/GST withholding, use tax, e-invoicing country specifics where in scope)
Drive hypercare with measurable SLAs; triage issues, tune OCR models, refine BRF+ rules, and stabilize touchless posting
Optimize performance (DP queues, batch jobs, posting throughput) and reduce MTTR with proactive alerting and runbooks
Knowledge transfer and playbooks for Support (L2/L3), including a troubleshooting matrix and a known-error database
Qualification
Required
7–10+ years SAP experience with OpenText VIM (or SAP Invoice Management by OpenText) in S/4HANA and/or ECC, spanning configuration + technical extensions
Hands-on with OCR/IC solutions (OpenText Intelligent Capture, SAP BTP Document Information Extraction (DOX), ABBYY, or equivalent), including training, field extraction, and accuracy tuning
Strong knowledge of AP invoice processes (MM/FI): PO/Non-PO, 3-way match, service entry, credit memo, GR/IR, blocking/release, tolerances, duplicate checks
Proficiency with S/4HANA artifacts: Fiori apps (e.g., Manage Supplier Invoices), My Inbox workflows, AIF, IDoc, OData, BRF+, BAdI/BTE
Demonstrated success supporting at least one SAP technical upgrade (preferably S/4HANA) with VIM/OCR in scope—covering SPAU/SPDD, custom code remediation, and regression
Strong understanding of security & compliance (SOX, SOD), and document/record retention
Excellent cross-functional communication; able to lead workshops and guide business through design trade-offs
Preferred
Experience with S/4HANA 2023 or later and VIM version upgrades (e.g., 7.x) and related OSS notes/patches
Familiarity with e-Invoicing frameworks or country packages; AIF-based B2G/B2B flows
Exposure to Opentext xECM, Archive Center, Documentum, or SAP DMS
Automation tooling: Solution Manager/Focused Build, Tricentis Tosca, CBTA, or equivalent
Certifications: SAP FI or MM, OpenText VIM, or SAP BTP DOX
