Electrical/Electronic Assistant

County of Santa Clara is seeking an Electrical/Electronic Assistant to perform limited duties in the repair and maintenance of traffic signal and lighting systems. The role involves assisting Electrical/Electronic Technicians with repairs, routine maintenance, and operations of various tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

Replaces lamps in traffic signals, safety lights and street lights
Assists in the assembly, replacement, repair, and testing of traffic signals, lighting systems and related equipment
Performs routine maintenance and repair on electrical and electronic components
Assists in the inspection of electrical construction
Keeps accurate daily records of work performed
Operates power and hand tools and basic shop equipment
Installs and retrieves traffic counters on County roadways
Installs, finishes, and repairs concrete foundations and slabs
May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required
Operates aerial equipment, jack hammer, trenching and other underground construction equipment
Performs other related work as required

Required

Sufficient education, training and experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the above tasks
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
One (1) year of vocational training or apprenticeship in the electrical field, or four (4) semester college level courses in the electrical field or equivalent
Possession of a valid California Driver's license prior to appointment
Ability to qualify for and maintain a County Driver's permit
Possession of California Class B Driver's license with an air brake endorsement within six (6) months of employment or vacate the position
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in electrical and electronic repair and maintenance
Knowledge of basic electrical and electronic theory
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in electrical construction work
Knowledge of principles and practices in electrical/electronic repair
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Ability to read and interpret laws and regulations pertaining to work
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, construction drawings and specifications
Ability to prepare reports
Ability to follow oral and written directions
Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks in all weather conditions and in close proximity to moving traffic
Ability to operate construction equipment (aerial equipment, saws, jackhammers, etc.)
Ability to install and finish concrete
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those encountered in the day-to-day performance of tasks
