Carpenter 2 - Iowa Veterans Home
NEOGOV is seeking a Carpenter 2 to join the Iowa Veterans Home, the largest long-term care facility in Iowa. The role involves performing various carpentry tasks to enhance the living environment for veterans, including general repairs and construction work.

Responsibilities
Complete work orders
Perform general types of carpenter repair-type tasks within the facility, e.g. hang pictures, assemble or repair furniture, construct shelving, repair hardware, install dispensers, replace glass, adjust doors/hinges, etc
Perform construction tasks: General building construction, ability to construct barriers, hang doors, cabinet construction, lay floor covering, hang ceiling tiles, panel walls, lay masonry walls, install support railings in residents' rooms and bathrooms, repair, replace and finish concrete, floors, partitions, roofs, stairways, windows, screens, etc
Reconstructs, alters or repairs tables, chairs, benches, counters, lockers, shelves, and window frames; performs some cabinet maker work; makes rough sketches and estimates the cost of new structures and repair work; advises in the election of building materials, prepares preliminary requisitions and stores building materials and supplies
Operates carpentry tools such as drills, hand saws, squares, etc., and shop tools such as table saws, band saws, drill presses, etc
Responsible for repairing locks, including door locks, medication cabinets, residents' locked drawers, etc., and making keys for same
Provides assistance in other Maintenance shop areas as necessary, e.g., moving furniture or equipment, snow removal, etc
Qualification
Required
The equivalent of five years of full-time employment in skilled carpentry work
An equivalent combination of education and experience to total five years, substituting the completion of one term of study in a carpentry course at a recognized trade school for each six months of the required experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience to total five years, substituting the completion of a recognized apprenticeship in carpentry for three years only of the required experience
Employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of one year of full-time experience as a Carpenter 1 shall be considered qualified
Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required Commercial Drivers License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire
