Transportation Engineer III, IV, or V- Flexible Pavements, Materials and Tests Division
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer to work in the Flexible Pavements, Materials and Tests Division. This role involves performing advanced and complex transportation engineering work, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and standards while interacting with various districts and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Evaluates the performance of new transportation products
Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies
Investigates materials failures or fabrication problems; reviews test data and assists in determining cause of failing materials
Serve as a lead worker and the related tasks
Performs engineering analysis of statewide materials conditions and develops reports
Writes reports, specifications and test procedures
Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff
Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements
Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications
Provides assistance and technical support to districts, divisions and the FHWA in matters concerning bridge maintenance
Provides information regarding innovative and experimental technologies to department personnel
Develops and supports implementation activities for new methods, procedures, and technologies
Gives presentations on TxDOT research program activities to departmental personnel and outside entities
Reviews and provides guidance on research project reports and other deliverables
Reviews, edits and provides guidance on research project statements for Research Management Committees
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or international
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
Transportation Engineer III - 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer IV - 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer V - 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Licensed Prof Engineer
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Considerable knowledge of government programs and operations affecting highway and transportation development
Expert skill in research and analysis methodologies
Proficient skill in public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
Proficient skill in planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees
Proficient skill in leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Proficient skill in evaluating products, equipment and material
Considerable knowledge of standards and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures
Considerable knowledge of risk analysis procedures and methods
Considerable knowledge of budgeting methods and procedures
Proficient skill in planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long term deadlines
Proficient skill in training in a classroom, office, or field environment
Extensive knowledge of maintenance concepts, methods, policies and requirements
Expert skill in evaluating transportation research and development based on performance criteria and adaptability of materials, equipment, processes and innovations for safe, effective and efficient mobilization of people, products and services
Proficient skill in researching, analyzing, and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations specific to functional area
Proficient skill in planning and coordinating workshops, seminars and task force activities
Proficient skill in developing and giving presentations
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour

Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
