Motor Fuels Tax Auditor - Raleigh

Responsibilities
Examine motor fuels tax returns and records to ensure taxpayer compliance with the Revenue laws of North Carolina
Conduct audits for International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and International Registration Plan (IRP) purposes
Perform accurate and complete audits of financial books and records of motor fuel suppliers, distributors, and service stations registered with the Excise Tax Division to determine tax compliance with multiple tax schedules
Maintain an audit plan, which includes simultaneously selecting audit candidates, scheduling taxpayer interviews, reviewing provided records, and preparing and submitting audit reports for timely review
Conduct audits at the taxpayer's place of business, which may require some overnight and out-of-state travel
Qualification
Required
A vehicle and a valid driver's license are required due to the travel requirements for this position
Basic knowledge of auditing and accounting principles and practices
Basic proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software
Basic Knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Income Tax
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or related field with at least twelve semester hours of accounting from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A transcript (either official or unofficial) must accompany the application to verify completion of the required twelve accounting hours
