Corrosion Technician (N. Miami)

Responsibilities
Surveys, inspects and trouble shoots corrosion related leaks and issues
Checks, researches and records disputed information found during field troubleshooting
Conducts CP surveys to determine areas needing further testing for the presence of corrosion
Takes pipe to soil readings for monitoring mains/services, performs soil resistivity tests and monitors impressed current systems and performs current requirements tests
Schedules field locations for crews and/or creates the work orders
Oversees company and contractor staff when performing underground cathodic protection and installation of anodes
Maintains corrosion maps (GIS) and updates digital records and processes required records and inspections in appropriate systems
Conducts field surveys of mains and service lines
Assists other team members and must be available for emergency first response call-out on a rotating or as needed basis
Performs special assignments and other job duties as required
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Must have passed the Advanced CP course (Appalachian Underground Corrosion Short Course or equivalent)
For advancement in this role, must pass the AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) CP I – Cathodic Protection Tester Certification or equivalent, and have a minimum 1 year of direct experience performing duties and responsibilities similar to this position
1 year of experience performing the duties and responsibilities of the Corrosion Apprentice Level 3 or other equivalent natural gas work experience
Must be fully proficient in performing all the duties and responsibilities of a Corrosion Apprentice Level with a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Level 3 Corrosion Apprentice or other equivalent natural gas work experience
Must have knowledge of basic engineering procedures and of the specific procedures related to corrosion engineering
Ability to read and understand maps
Knowledgeable about all relevant municipal, state and federal regulations
Mechanical ability to operate all testing equipment related to the specialty of corrosion engineering
Must be able to operate basic computer software and update field data into a computer database or spreadsheet
Must be able to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, decimals, fractions)
Must be able to express ideas in writing
Must be able to work emergency response overtime including call-out duty as business needs dictate
Must be able to respond to gas emergencies and/or business needs within divisional guidelines and work outdoors for extended periods of time
Must be able to independently operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner
Must be able to independently enter/exit a motor vehicle as required during an eight-hour shift
Must be able to bend and/or stoop requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles
Must be able to kneel and or crouch by bending legs at knees to come to rest at knees and bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine
Must be able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time
Must be able to grasp/handle small hand tools and other objects by applying pressure with fingers and palms
Must be able to pull, push, lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs
Must have vision correctable to 20/40
Must not have an average hearing loss greater than 40 decibels in the better ear at frequencies of 500, 1000 and 2000 with or without a hearing aid
Must be able to smell gas odorant in normal concentrations
Must be able to perform repetitive motions by extending arms and hands in any direction with substantial movement of wrists, hands and fingers
Must be able to rotate and revolve body (twist) as to face in another direction
Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time and in potential safety hazards
Preferred
2 years of direct work experience
Knowledge of the geographic area and strong interpersonal skills
