Finance Officer

The Ohio Optometric Association (OOA) seeks an experienced, highly trusted Finance Officer to serve as a strategic partner to the Executive Director and Board of Directors. This role provides the opportunity to oversee the financial health, compliance, and long-term sustainability of a respected professional association and its affiliated Foundation.

Responsibilities

Oversee the development and management of annual budgets and financial forecasts for both the Association and its Foundation
Prepare and present income statements, balance sheets, budgets, and other financial reports for the OOA Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Foundation leadership
Manage daily banking activities, including deposits, invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
Reconcile accounts and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
Maintain all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
Ensure compliance with all financial, legal, and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, annual audits, and reporting obligations
Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax preparers, investment advisors, banking partners, payroll providers, and insurance vendors
Establish and maintain internal controls in collaboration with the OOA’s accounting firm to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
Prepare and file required reports, including Political Action Committee (PAC) filings with the Ohio Secretary of State and annual 1099s
Partner with the Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer to oversee financial activities, including grant allocation, fundraising revenue, and grant and award disbursements
Collaborate with the Chief Strategy Officer for Education and Events on budgeting and financial tracking for the Association’s annual educational conference and other events to ensure financial viability and cost efficiency
Assist with membership dues billing, forecasting, and remittance to the American Optometric Association and local zones
Maintain subscription accounts related to dues payments and PAC contributions
Oversee payroll processing and administration of employee benefits, including health, life, disability insurance, 401(k), and flexible spending accounts
Maintain HR records and support benefits administration in compliance with applicable regulations
Implement consistent financial structures, processes, and best practices across all departments
Provide clear, accurate financial guidance to leadership to support strategic decision-making
Perform other duties as assigned by the OOA Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Foundation leadership

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience
Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and GAAP
Experience with payroll processing and HR/benefits administration
High level of financial acumen with exceptional attention to detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and accounting software (SAGE experience a plus)
Self-motivated, independent problem-solver with leadership capabilities
Demonstrated personal and professional integrity with a commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards
Must reside in the Columbus Metro Area

Preferred

Experience working with nonprofit organizations and state or private grants strongly preferred
