Senior Tax Accountant

The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for the various tax compliance and accounting requirements, including preparation of tax returns, financial reporting of all taxes, and researching tax laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Compiling and analyzing general ledger activity in order to prepare supporting workpapers and documentation for all types (income, sale and use, motor fuel, property) of tax returns
Preparing supporting workpapers for quarterly and annual income tax provisions
Populating tax compliance and tax accounting software programs and analyzing the results for accuracy and completeness
Analyzing tax and accounting processes and controls for compliance with regulatory requirements and developing improvements and changes where required
Researching and responding to notices from tax and financial auditors
Researching the tax treatment of transactions or potential transactions
Monitoring tax return filing requirements and deadlines
Researching tax laws and regulations for potential tax savings opportunities and implementing plans for realizing those benefits
Preparing general ledger account reconciliations

Required

Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an Accounting
Minimum 4 years experience in the tax field, with experience preparing federal consolidated returns and multi-state corporate returns
Experience with income tax accounting, motor fuels taxes, property taxes, sale and use taxes
Proficient in Microsoft Office Software
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Critical thinking and decision-making skills and the ability to use logic and reasoning to solve 'new' problems on a regular basis
Ability to work with urgency and deadlines
Ability to multi-task and to prioritize different requests
Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced environment
Ability to meet physical demands of the job includes but is not limited to: frequent sitting, standing, frequent computer use; frequent telephone use; some lifting or moving up to 20 lbs
Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed
Ability to work after hours/weekends and on call as needed
All potential employees of Green Plains Inc. will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check prior to employment
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and be able to maintain ongoing work authorization without employer sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred

Public accounting experience preferred
CPA certification preferred
Tax return and/or tax provision software experience preferred
