Responsibilities
Prepare 1040 forms for individual income tax returns and files tax returns electronically or by mail
Maintains accurate records of tax returns and related documents
Ensure tax return compliance with tax laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local tax laws
Calculate tax liabilities and refunds based on the information provided
Identify and apply any available tax deductions, credits, or exemptions that may be applicable to the taxpayer's situation
May perform detailed reviews on tax returns, research, and compliance work with an emphasis on calculations, accounting theory, and tax law compliance
Maintain technical tax skills through continuing professional education, on the job training and participation in internal tax training sessions
Perform tax research where appropriate
Collect and organize tax-related documents, such as income statements, expense receipts, and investment records, and enter data from these documents into tax preparation software
Communicate directly with clients to answer questions and provide guidance on tax-related matters
Record billable time in billing system to ensure timely client billing/invoicing
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred
1 year of relevant experience in tax return preparation
