The New York State Workers' Compensation Board is seeking a Senior Accountant or Accountant Trainee to assist with various accounting functions within the Office of Financial Services. The role involves reviewing assessment forms for accuracy, conducting audits, performing daily deposits, and assisting with additional tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

Review various assessment forms submitted to the NYS WCB for accuracy
Review the Annual GA 1.6 Base Factor Reports for accuracy and reasonableness
Review the Annual GA-5 form
Once the assessment forms are received, review the forms for accuracy and reasonableness and enter the data into the Statewide Financial System (SFS)
Review and follow up on any outstanding forms and payments
Notify supervisor of any differences between the amount on the assessment forms and the payment amount submitted, and take additional steps as needed to correct those differences
Conduct Audits of Self-Insured Employers and Municipalities who file the GA-3 and GA-4 forms for the 151 Assessment based on payroll, to ensure amounts submitted match payroll that was submitted to the NYS Department of Labor
Perform daily deposits for Lockbox 5532 (assessments). These deposits are entered into SFS
Review and answer questions received into various general email boxes for the Finance Office, Assessments, and Billing email inbox
Perform accounting transactions in SFS that require a higher-level of financial analysis
Create additional items in SFS as needed
Assist supervisor and management with additional tasks and projects as needed

Required

Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses
Accountant Trainee 1 - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses
Accountant Trainee 2 - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing
Senior Accountant - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing
A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State
