SR. TECHNICIAN - TECHNICIAN - Thermal-fluids Mechanical Experimental Technician
Southwest Research Institute is supporting engineers to design, build, and operate experimental test setups for solving fluid systems problems. The role involves providing hands-on support for experimental testing, including installation and maintenance of equipment, data collection, and communication with team members and clients.

Responsibilities
Install and remove piping components and assemblies, assist in assembling and disassembling test fixtures and mechanical hardware; load, unload, move materials and equipment for operations; drive Institute vehicles and forklifts; operate cranes and other lifts
Assist in the installation, wiring, and troubleshooting of instrumentation; assist in the servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and fluid handling equipment
Serve as the operator for elevated-pressure, flowing test facilities using existing data acquisition and control systems. collect and reduce test data; use a computer to manage test data; prepare input for test reports
Communicate with Institute staff, vendors and customers regarding work status, progress, problems/solutions, and results
Participate in continuous operational and safety improvement processes while working in a team environment with a positive attitude and strong communication skills
Qualification
Required
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
2 years: Mechanical technician experience with pressurized fluid systems required; such as HVAC, plumbing, process/plant operation, or oilfield experience
2 years: Mechanical skills with hand tools and power tools required
Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office programs required; such as Word, Excel
A valid/clear driver's license is required
Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section
Preferred
Mechanical Technician classes are preferred; such as hydraulics training
Naval experience supporting power-plant operations on either submarines or aircraft carriers desired
Experience in the Navy as a Nuclear technician preferred
Electronics experience preferred (low-voltage); such as instrumentation, audio/visual
