Team Lead Internal Digital Channels
The Department of Conservation (DOC) is dedicated to protecting and restoring nature across Aotearoa. They are seeking an experienced internal digital communications professional to lead the improvement of DOC’s intranet and internal digital channels, ensuring usability, accessibility, and engagement.

Responsibilities
Lead and improve DOC’s intranet and internal digital channels
Owning intranet and internal digital channel governance (content lifecycle, IA, templates, standards, accessibility)
Delivering a channel strategy and annual work plan aligned to business needs and user insights
Using analytics and testing to improve content and UX; reporting on engagement and platform performance
Coordinating projects and vendors to enhance our SharePoint‑based intranet and connected tools (e.g., Teams/Viva)
Enabling publishers with simple guidance, training, and user‑friendly tools
Leading people and performance — clear goals, regular feedback, development planning, and wellbeing
Working as an honourable Treaty partner to promote Māori engagement and involvement in our work
Qualification
Required
6–10 years' internal digital communications experience, including intranet channel management
Strong intranet/CMS administration and content operations (SharePoint experience ideal)
User experience (UX) skills — usability, IA, navigation, layouts — and responsive, accessible design (NZ Govt Web Standards)
People leadership — coaching, feedback, performance, and support for dispersed/flexible teams. We will also consider people with people mentoring experience looking to step up into their first management position
Strategy and planning — roadmaps, annual work plans, balancing BAU and projects
Analytics and reporting — turning insights into improvements (content, IA, UX)
Testing and continuous improvement — usability/performance testing; commissioning reviews
Stakeholder skills — trusted advice, clear communication, timely delivery
Knowledge of collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint/Teams/Viva or similar)
Experience in government is desirable, though other sectors will be considered
Preferred
Understanding or willingness to learn Māori tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and how it relates to your work
Work in genuine partnership with Māori and act as an honourable Treaty partner
