Senior Building Automation & Controls Engineer
Tetrad Real Estate is seeking a Senior Building Automation & Controls Engineer to serve as the primary in-house lead for building automation and control systems across their managed portfolio. This role involves troubleshooting and optimizing BAS performance while supporting broader building operations and maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary resource for Building Automation Systems (BAS) across multiple properties
Troubleshoot, adjust, and optimize control systems to support comfort, energy efficiency, and reliability
Review and refine control sequences, schedules, setpoints, alarms, and trend data
Monitor system performance and proactively resolve recurring or systemic issues
Maintain BAS hardware, sensors, controllers, and network integrity
Help manage and support HVAC system performance through controls coordination and system-level troubleshooting
Identify HVAC-related issues, support resolution efforts, and escalate to vendors when needed
Assist with commissioning, recommissioning, and system optimization efforts
Respond to work orders that may include MEP-related and non-MEP maintenance tasks
Support day-to-day building operations to ensure facilities are safe, functional, and tenant-ready
Collaborate with engineering and property teams to prioritize work and minimize disruption
Document work performed, system changes, and corrective actions
Support controls-related upgrades, retrofits, and projects
Coordinate and manage outside vendors when escalation is required
Assist with developing controls standards, documentation, and preventive maintenance programs
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule
Respond to after-hours alarms, system issues, and building emergencies
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
5+ years of experience with building automation systems, controls, or commercial building operations
Strong understanding of control logic, sequences of operation, and BAS architecture
Ability to independently troubleshoot controls and building system issues
Experience responding to diverse maintenance and operational work orders
Ability to read control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences
Strong communication and customer service skills
Valid driver's license
Preferred
Experience with BAS platforms such as Alerton, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, Delta Controls, or similar
Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, or related protocols
Experience with commissioning or system optimization
Technical or trade school training
