USAJOBS is seeking a Health Physicist to work within the Radiation Safety Office of the Chief of Staff Service. The incumbent will assist or work independently on all aspects of the Radiation Safety Program and provide staff support to the Associate Radiation Safety Officer and Radiation Safety Officer.

Responsibilities

Develops, trains and executes expert knowledge of good health physics practices and procedures as required to support the STVHCS mission
Must be knowledgeable of the appropriate radiation detection and measurement equipment to define ambient dose equivalent rates and contamination levels as it relates to the performance of Radioactive Material package swipe surveys, user facility inspections, sealed source leak tests, management of wastes from radionuclide therapy patients, radioactive material spill decontamination, and radiological decommissioning of radiation treatment rooms and user facilities
Must have expert knowledge in the operation of computer, radiographic and scintillation counting equipment used to detect and monitor radiation
Must be able to interpret radiation detection levels to determine hazardous and safe levels of radiation exposure to patients and staff
Be knowledgeable in how to develop new procedures as the mission and radiation treatment techniques change
Must be able to analyze hazards, assess risk, and recommend safe work procedures for operations, equipment, material or devices
Must also be familiar with radiation standards of care for patients and potential occupational radiation exposure limits for staff

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement
Individual Occupational Requirements: Degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus
Selective Placement Factor: Must have a completed Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) 313A (RSO) form with one year mentoring
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07
Driver's License: A current, valid state-issued driver's License is required for this position
