Utility Systems Repairer-Operator
The National Park Service is seeking a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator for the Virgin Islands National Park. This role involves performing wastewater and surface water treatment processes, maintaining and repairing equipment, and ensuring the quality of water systems.

Responsibilities
Completes wastewater treatment processes that remove nitrogen, phosphorous, soluble chemicals, oils, and heavy metals such as copper and chrome
Completes surface water treatment filtration processes to lake or river water that involve nonfiltration
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of equipment such as masticators/grinders, filters, regulators, pumps, valves, chemical feed machines, chlorinators, and aeration equipment (fans, air injection, oxygenation)
Monitors, regulates, and adjusts fluid discharge levels
Measures and introduces chemicals and compounds into the water system
Performs microbiological tests such as inoculation and incubation of outgoing water samples to verify the elimination of treated microorganisms
Manually digs ditches for repair and installation of utility lines
Sweeps and cleans shop areas and tools in order to maintain a clean and orderly workshop
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship required
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record
You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Wastewater and Water Treatment Operations Certificate Class 4
Additionally, you must secure and maintain a valid U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health Services Type 1 & 2 Wastewater and Water Treatment Operator Certificate Class 4, within 12 months of your start date
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority
The incumbent may be required to operate motor vehicles and heavy engineering equipment
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
