Responsibilities
Design and deliver end-to-end Azure-based data platforms with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and long-term sustainability
Lead architectural planning and design reviews for large-scale or high-complexity client data initiatives
Translate business processes and requirements into well-structured enterprise data models
Define and govern conceptual, logical, and physical data models across business domains
Apply modern data architecture concepts such as domain-driven design, data products, and distributed ownership models when appropriate
Establish and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and architectural guidelines
Serve as the primary technical authority on projects, ensuring architectural intent is carried through implementation via reviews and governance
Implement dimensional models using star schema design and Kimball best practices
Mentor and support data engineers on Azure services, performance optimization, and cloud-native design patterns
Lead cloud cost management efforts to ensure efficient and scalable use of Azure services
Assess and introduce new Azure tools and capabilities into Emergent Software’s data offerings
Advise clients on data modernization efforts, including migrations from on-prem systems to Azure and overall platform maturity
Contribute to internal and external thought leadership through blogs, webinars, or speaking opportunities
Architect data storage solutions using Azure OneLake, Azure SQL, and Synapse Analytics for diverse data types
Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance through tools like Azure Purview
Partner with BI teams to deliver curated datasets and models for Power BI and downstream consumers
Oversee data security, compliance, and privacy controls including RBAC, encryption, and sensitive data handling
Produce clear documentation and follow Emergent Software’s Agile delivery and quality standards
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience in database development and data architecture
5+ years working on Azure-based data projects
Hands-on experience designing lakehouse architectures (ADLS/OneLake, Delta/Parquet, medallion layers, or similar)
Strong background in dimensional modeling and normalized data structures
Proven ability to lead discovery sessions, architecture workshops, and convert ambiguous business needs into technical solutions
Experience building semantic models for BI and analytics
Comfort participating in pre-sales conversations and solution discussions with clients
Data warehouse design using Kimball methodologies
ETL development with Azure Data Factory
Analytics and reporting solutions built with Power BI
Performance tuning and optimization of Synapse, SQL pools, Fabric Warehouses, and ADF pipelines
Preferred
Experience developing solutions in Microsoft Fabric
Exposure to data products or Data Mesh-style operating models
Familiarity with DBT and CI/CD approaches for data pipelines
Infrastructure-as-code experience (Bicep, Terraform)
Azure Purview policy-based access control and lineage modeling
Modern transformation tooling such as PySpark, Spark SQL, or .NET/C#
