Bilingual GIS Curriculum Specialist--Temporary, Part-Time, Grant Funded
The Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability is seeking a Bilingual GIS Curriculum Specialist to develop and deliver a bilingual GIS agrivoltaics curriculum for farmworker youth and their families. This role involves curriculum design, bilingual instruction, and community engagement to support workforce development objectives.
Responsibilities
Co-develop and adapt a GIS agrivoltaics siting curriculum aligned with the goals of the Inland SoCal Thrive grant and ANC partnership
Translate complex geospatial and agrivoltaics concepts into accessible, youth-appropriate, and bilingual instructional modules
Design hands-on GIS exercises using SoCal Earth focused on solar potential, soils, water, crop compatibility, environmental constraints, and community impacts
Produce bilingual instructional materials, including lesson plans, slide decks, worksheets, datasets, and mapping templates
Teach GIS and agrivoltaics modules to approximately 20–30 farmworker youth (ages 16–24) in Spanish and English
Provide parallel bilingual learning opportunities for parents and family members through workshops and demonstrations
Facilitate project-based learning in which participants create agrivoltaic siting maps and analyses relevant to local agricultural contexts
Support youth in developing presentation and communication skills around their GIS work
Customize and curate relevant SoCal Earth data layers for agrivoltaics siting and workforce training
Assist with data visualization, map creation, and basic troubleshooting to support instructional use of the platform
Provide feedback to RRC staff on platform usability for bilingual, community-based education contexts
Work closely with ANC staff and member organizations (including Líderes Campesinas) to ensure culturally grounded implementation
Participate in community meetings, listening sessions, and program showcases
Build trust with youth and families by incorporating lived agricultural knowledge into GIS learning activities
Document curriculum materials and instructional approaches to support replication across California farmworker regions
Collect participant feedback to inform continuous program improvement
Assist with reporting, evaluation metrics, and narrative documentation required by the grant
Support presentations, briefings, or site visits for funders and partners as appropriate
Collaborate with RRC/ANC staff, faculty, and student fellows as needed
Perform other related grant-aligned duties as assigned
Participate in all-RRC staff meetings
Qualification
Required
Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geospatial data analysis, and map creation
Strong analytical skills and experience in data management
Excellent bilingual communication skills (spoken and written)
Ability to contribute effectively to interdisciplinary and collaborative academic projects
Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Education, or related field
Preferred
Experience in curriculum design and educational programming
Familiarity with sustainability and environmental education
