Mechanisms & Mechatronics Engineer
Visioneering Space Corp is a small, growing company building optical and electromechanical systems for spaceflight. They are seeking a Mid-Level Mechanisms/Electromechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to lead mechanisms development, manage schedules, and provide oversight to junior engineers while designing precision mechanisms for space applications.
Responsibilities
Lead mechanisms development team from design through delivery & post-launch orbital operations support
Create & maintain mechanisms development schedules. Report technical progress and schedule status
Provide training & oversight to junior engineers to ensure they have the proper guidance to excel
Communicate effectively with customers
Conceptual design of precision mechanisms including rotary and liner positioning devices, release-restraint/launch locks, multi-axis gimbals, single use and commandable aperture doors, deployment, latching, optical beam scanning/steering and focus mechanisms
Rolling element bearing systems: analysis, sizing & selection
Motor selection & sizing, Experience with piezo, brushless DC and stepper motors, power transmission, and gearing. Torque margin calculation
Materials Tribology & Lubrication selection for high vacuum. Knowledge of low-friction, anti-galling, galvanic corrosion compatibility, etc
Relevant fabrication processes familiarity such as milling, lathing, 3D printing, grinding, & EDM required to effectively interact with machine shop vendors and manage fabrication to remain on schedule
Relevant materials processing knowledge such as forging, heat treating, stress relief, etc. to effectively interact with machine shop vendors and manage fabrication processes
Creation and checking of fabrication drawings per ANSI-Y-14, NASA, and customer supplied standards
Management of functional and environmental testing of flight mechanisms including functional, vibration, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC/Magnetics, and life testing
Synthesis of test plans & procedures, documentation of test, and test reporting
Coordination of testing with 3rd party environmental test facilities
Ability to develop control electronics is a bonus
Familiarity with controls design & laboratory implementation is an additional bonus
Experience with applied GSFC-STD-7000 (GEVS), GSFC-STD-1000 (Gold Rules), SMC-S-016, are preferred but not required
