Fairfax County Public Schools is seeking a Functional Applications Specialist I to provide technical support for computer applications. The role involves training end-users and performing various tasks related to application design, development, and support.

Responsibilities

Displays knowledge of and/or has responsibility for all facets of one or several applications specific to an organization or divisionwide
Performs routine technology tasks
Conducts functional application design and development to meet the needs of end-users
Makes enhancements and modifications to functional applications
Supports hardware and software related to functional applications
Prepares system documentation in non-technical terms for users
Prepares and updates rules and regulations with respect to functional applications
Maintains user accounts and security
Develops and designs reports; manages data
Develops functional requirements and performs acceptance testing for new systems or programs developed internally or by commercial vendors to ensure that users' unique requirements are met
May act as a liaison for internal technology activities
Runs reports and queries
Provides both formal and ad hoc training to end-users
Maintains a hotline
Troubleshoots and resolves difficulties encountered by users
Performs related duties as required or assigned

Qualification

Information technology supportReport developmentData managementComputer technology knowledgeAnalytical abilityEffective communication

Required

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in computer science or information systems with courses in a field related to the assigned organization or clientele
One (1) year of experience in information technology support
+ Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience
Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of applicable computer technology and its most effective and efficient utilization to support the functions of the assigned organization or clientele
Analytical ability
Ability to develop and design reports and manage data
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
