Internship, Mechanical Design, Robotaxi Service Tooling (Summer 2026)

Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy and is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern for their Service Tooling team. The intern will assist in the design and development of innovative tools and equipment for servicing the Tesla Robotaxi fleet, contributing to real-world engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

Assisting in the design and development of service equipment, tools, jigs, and testing fixtures
Collaborating with senior engineers and technicians to understand tooling requirements and contribute to solutions
Creating and maintaining design documentation, including 3D CAD models and 2D drawings
Participating in hands-on prototyping, building, and testing of new tooling designs in our labs
Supporting the team in developing tooling solutions for our vehicle platforms used in service centers around the globe

Required

Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, Fusion 360) through coursework or personal projects
A strong desire to learn and a hands-on approach to problem-solving
Excellent problem-solving skills rooted in first principles thinking
A foundational understanding of common manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, 3D printing)

Preferred

Previous internship experience or involvement in student engineering teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Robotics)
A strong interest in automation, robotics, or electric vehicles
Exposure to electronics or software development
Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles
