Responsibilities

Identify and aggressively pursue new business opportunities through cold calling, job site visits, and networking
Utilize market intelligence, such as Construction Market Data or Dodge reports, to identify potential projects and inquire with painting contractors
Develop and execute a sales marketing plan for the territory, targeting high-potential accounts to meet strategic growth targets
Move opportunities through the sales funnel to convert prospects into long-term customers
Maintain a consistent physical presence by visiting contractors’ offices, job sites, and properties to strengthen engagement and customer loyalty
Understand customer business models and timelines to provide solutions that increase 'share of wallet' and purchasing orders
Work closely with store managers and inside staff to direct business appropriately and ensure a seamless customer service experience
Act as the internal advocate for the client to resolve product performance issues or complaints
Serve as a trusted advisor with a deep understanding of Benjamin Moore products, coating systems, and surface preparation
Sell products as a package of quality and service—not just price—while identifying upsell opportunities based on project scope
Assist with pricing strategies, bids, and specific job quotes, utilizing estimating software or measurements when necessary
Attend trade shows and industry functions to stay updated on trends and competitive information
Maintain detailed records of calls, visits, and opportunities in the company CRM or tracking system
Provide regular reports on sales activity, pipeline progress, and territory performance to management
Assist with in-store duties as needed, including coordinating deliveries and communicating special customer requirements

Required

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred
2–5+ years of proven outside sales experience, preferably in the paint, coatings, or construction industry
Experience in developing and implementing business plans
Prior experience with Benjamin Moore or premium paint brands is a plus
Strong 'hunter' mentality with demonstrated ability to close sales
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Proven ability to work autonomously in a field-based role with minimal daily supervision
Analytical skills for problem-solving and identifying market opportunities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Ability to work independently with effective time management skills
Ability to lift and carry paint samples and merchandise (up to 50 lbs)
Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory

Preferred

Bachelor's degree preferred
Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred
Prior experience with Benjamin Moore or premium paint brands is a plus
