UConn’s Facilities Operations Department is seeking an Electronic Integrated Control Systems Technician for their Storrs Campus. The technician will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of various power plant equipment, ensuring the safe production and distribution of energy to meet campus needs.

Responsibilities
Performs highly skilled duties in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of multiple buildings, distribution infrastructure, and/or power plant equipment for safe operation and production, distribution, and consumption of high pressure superheated steam, electrical power and chilled water to meet campus energy needs
Works on campus to check and ensure reliable operation of equipment and to detect faulty or erratic operation of systems through excessive vibration, abnormal noises, extreme temperatures and/or leakages
Monitors, calibrates and repairs gauges and other devices to standards and records performance indicators on log deficiency reports
Coordinates equipment abnormalities reports and assists in diagnosis
Performs preventative maintenance repairs
Performs other related tasks as required and/or assigned
Qualification
Required
Must possess a current motor vehicle operator license
Must be lawfully permitted to work in the United States
Five (5) years of experience in installation assistance, monitoring, instrumentation calibration, maintenance, repair and programming of electronic industrial controls which are integrated into a distributed control system (DCS) within an industrial, commercial, military, government, large healthcare complex or a production oriented environment
Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate valid current licenses, permits and/or certifications
Incumbents in this class may be required to attend technical seminars or courses and retain original equipment manufacturer certification
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel
Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties
A physical examination may be required
Incumbents in this class may be required to drive and operate motor vehicles, including, but not limited to vans, box trucks, and pick-up trucks ranging in size from compact, midsize, full-size, and heavy-duty, some of which are equipped with lift gates
Incumbents must have adequate physical strength and agility to walk up and down stairs frequently and climb ladders independently
Must be able lift, carry and push material weighing up to 75 lbs
Must have the ability to utilize ladders, scaffolding, high-lifts and enter confined spaces
Must be able to inspect, troubleshoot and repair equipment that is part of a wide range of electrical and mechanical systems
Incumbents must possess the ability to utilize tools, perform the required duties set forth above and will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary
Preferred
State of Connecticut Trades License preferably in one or more of the following specific trades: Heating, Piping and Cooling, Electrical, Plumbing and Heating, and/or an OE2 License (Heating, Piping and Cooling Operating Engineer Journeyperson)
Knowledge and experience working with related software systems such as Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferably AiM, safety systems, Pi data historian, SCADA systems, GEifixx, and Beamex calibration systems, air emissions monitoring systems and/or capability of downloading relay data
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership ability
Experience operating and maintaining combustion turbines
Experience operating and maintaining fuel cell systems and/or geothermal systems
Experience operating and maintaining industrial boilers over 50KPPH capacity
Experience operating and maintaining industrial steam turbines
Experience operating and maintaining gas, electric, and steam driven chillers
Understanding of an electrical high voltage 69 kV / 13.8 kV distribution power grid
Experience maintaining utility metering systems (ex: steam, water, chilled water, electrical, etc.)
