Responsibilities
Design, review, and evaluate fire protection and life safety systems, including fire detection, alarm, suppression, and smoke control systems
Perform fire hazard analyses, life safety assessments, and code compliance reviews for new construction, renovations, and existing facilities
Apply and interpret applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC, IFC, UFC, and agency-specific requirements)
Provide technical guidance and engineering judgment to project teams, facility managers, and leadership
Review construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals for fire protection compliance
Conduct field inspections, testing, and acceptance of fire protection systems
Support risk assessments and mitigation strategies for mission-critical and high-security facilities
Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and AHJs as required
Prepare technical reports, design analyses, and formal recommendations
Support emergency planning, fire response coordination, and continuity of operations initiatives
Maintain awareness of emerging fire protection technologies and best practices
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license
Minimum of 5 years' experience working as a fire protection engineer
Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, fire dynamics, and life safety concepts
Experience applying NFPA codes and standards in complex facilities
Experience working in secure, mission-critical, or government facilities
Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and federal design requirements
Experience supporting high-reliability or high-consequence operations
Prior experience within the Intelligence Community or Department of Defense
