Customs Entry Writer
GES Logistics is seeking a Customs Entry Writer responsible for the compliant and timely filing of import shipments with Customs and Border Protection. The role includes managing brokerage duties, communicating with importers, and ensuring accurate documentation and clearance processes.
Responsibilities
Classifies commercial invoices in a timely and accurate manner according to the HTSUS
Documentation breakdown and verification of content
Communicates with importers to correctly identify commodities in order to classify properly and conform to informed compliance
Electronically transmits to U.S. Customs all information necessary to obtain clearance
ISF filing may be required
Arranges on-forwarding with various carriers after determining which carrier will be most cost effective and profitable
Communicates with bonded facilities to obtain information needed to properly dispatch freight
Communicates with Globe Express Services Traffic Representatives to obtain information needed to complete clearance process
Timely communication with customer and operations as required ensuring proper shipment clearance and delivery
Completes check request forms for Accounting Department to process
Updates Globe Express Services personnel with customs clearance information
Scans and forwards completed entry documentation to Globe Express Services, in house filing system for electronic storage
Accurate recording keeping in all formats; Laser fiche, Radar, .Net and Manual (scanning, photo copying and data entry requirements)
Implements new CBP as well as company policies with ease
Timely submission of data to CBP, electronic and physical
Inland freight arrangement when applicable
Handles statement Processing
Receives collection of duties and fees from customer for timely statement processing
Posts Entry Amendments
Complies with External Audit requests and participate in Internal Audits
Participates in all required additional training such as CBP, and other government agency sponsored classes and events
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Cargowise, Automated Broker Interface; Software Internet software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software
Working knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff of the U.S. and the 19CFR, U.S. Customs Regulations
Type and ten key
Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in a similar position
Working knowledge of the industry and associated terminology
Understanding of international transportation procedures
Preferred
Export experience is a plus
