Director of Retirement

Confidential company is seeking a Director of Retirement to lead the Community of Expertise for retirement and pension programs. This role involves overseeing the design, governance, and operational execution of retirement programs while ensuring compliance and effective collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Serve as the COE lead for global retirement and pension programs across multiple countries and jurisdictions
Own the retirement program roadmap across defined contribution (DC), defined benefit (DB), and retiree benefit programs
Provide expert guidance to HRBPs and business leaders to align retirement programs with workforce strategy, labor considerations, and financial objectives
Lead the administration and day-to-day oversight of retirement programs, including DC, DB, retiree medical, and retiree life insurance plans
Partner with People Operations and vendors to ensure effective execution across payroll integration, funding, participant experience, and service delivery
Serve in designated governance roles (e.g., Board member or committee secretary) for the company pension entities, as appointed
Support fiduciary committees, including:
Pension Fund Trust and Investment Committee
Benefits Administration Committee (North America)
Ensure compliance with fiduciary requirements, plan documentation, investment oversight processes, and governance frameworks
Partner with HR, Finance, and Legal to drive cost management and risk mitigation, including:
Vendor negotiations
Dependent eligibility audits
Efficient Form 5500 and regulatory reporting processes
Support pension funding strategies, actuarial assessments, and long-term liability management
Lead the execution of retirement plan design changes and harmonization of legacy programs, including:
Union plan alignment and integration
Pension plan consolidations
Pension buyouts and de-risking initiatives
Reduce complexity while maintaining regulatory compliance and honoring collective bargaining commitments
Provide retirement and pension expertise in support of labor negotiations
Ensure compliance with collectively bargained retirement and savings plans while supporting sustainable benefit designs
Lead retirement program execution and coordination during acquisitions, divestitures, and integrations
Ensure operational readiness for payroll, enrollment, funding, and vendor connectivity across retirement programs
Drive high-quality service delivery through strong partnership with People Operations and vendors
Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and clarity in retirement administration, funding, and colleague communications

Required

10+ years of experience in retirement, pension, or global benefits management
Strong expertise in U.S. DC/DB plans, ERISA, and fiduciary governance
Demonstrated experience supporting labor environments, M&A activity, and complex regulatory requirements
Proven ability to work effectively across HR, Finance, Legal, People Operations, and external advisors

Preferred

Experience with international pension schemes strongly preferred
