Responsibilities

Supervise and develop a team of two accountants responsible for A/P, A/R, Payroll, and gift processing
Support the Controller in implementing the departmental restructure and ensuring a smooth transition to improved systems and workflows
Serve as a key liaison between the finance team and program departments to ensure financial alignment and understanding of accounting processes
Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting
Oversee daily accounting functions including A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing
Ensure proper recording of contributions, grants, and gifts in collaboration with the Development and Advancement teams
Prepare and review general ledger entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
Oversee financial data integrity between Raiser's Edge, Imburse, Bill.com, AccuFund, and ADP
Identify opportunities to streamline processes through automation and AI-enabled solutions for efficiency and accuracy
Partner with IT and system vendors to maintain and optimize financial systems
Assist in preparing audit documentation and liaise with external auditors during the annual audit
Support preparation of financial reports for management, the Board of Directors, and funders
Ensure compliance with internal policies, donor restrictions, and government grant requirements
Lead process documentation and standardization initiatives within the accounting team
Introduce and manage AI-driven tools for data entry, reconciliation, and financial analysis
Contribute to creating a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration in the finance department

Required

MUST have nonprofit accounting experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
Nonprofit accounting experience required, ideally in a midsized or complex organization ($10M+ budget)
Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles
Proficiency in AccuFund or similar nonprofit accounting software
Experience working with Raiser's Edge (Blackbaud), Emburse, Bill.com, and ADP
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Commitment to continuous improvement, accuracy, and integrity
Interest or experience in leveraging AI and automation to modernize accounting workflows

Preferred

CPA or equivalent credential
Strong Excel skills and familiarity with data analytics or AI-driven financial tools
