Housing Solicitor

Citizens Advice is expanding its specialist housing legal team and is seeking a committed Housing Solicitor who shares their passion for social justice. The role involves providing specialist housing law advice and casework, managing a varied caseload, and contributing to the development of housing legal aid provision.

Responsibilities

Provide specialist housing law advice and casework, including possession proceedings, homelessness appeals, counterclaims, and disrepair
Deliver services under our Legal Aid contracts
Represent clients at all stages of a case, including court advocacy where appropriate
Manage your own varied caseload while meeting Legal Aid billing targets
Support and, where appropriate, supervise junior colleagues within the housing advice team
Play a key role in shaping and developing our housing legal aid provision as part of the new Kent Law Centre
Contribute to research, campaigns and wider organisational goals

Required

Qualified Solicitor with 3+ years PQE (as defined by the Legal Services Act 2007)
Able to meet Legal Aid Agency housing supervisor requirements
At least 2 years' recent experience providing LAA housing advice and representation
Strong working knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness, disrepair, mortgage repossessions, and relevant case law
Experience managing complex caseloads and meeting Legal Aid targets
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Highly organised, with an ordered approach to casework and ability to work independently
Strong digital skills, including case management systems (e.g., Casebook)
Commitment to Citizens Advice values and confidentiality

Preferred

Experience delivering court duty desk services
Experience in voluntary or community sector settings
Experience training or supporting colleagues
Knowledge of judicial review processes
