Responsibilities

Supervise, mentor, and develop the HR Specialist, and Payroll Specialist to ensure consistent, high-quality HR and payroll service delivery
Set clear team goals and performance expectations aligned to business priorities, and coach staff toward measurable outcomes
Ensure HR and payroll processes are executed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with policy and legal requirements; serve as a back-up as needed
Identify operational gaps and lead continuous improvement efforts that enhance employee experience, reduce risk, and increase efficiency
Maintain documentation practices and internal controls that support consistency and audit readiness
Partner with leaders to anticipate workforce needs, including headcount planning, talent gaps, succession considerations, and organizational design
Translate business priorities into HR initiatives that support performance, retention, engagement, and culture
Use HR metrics and trends (turnover, engagement, staffing, performance data, etc.) to inform recommendations and proactive solutions
Support the VP of Admin and HR in strategic HR initiatives, change management, and long-range people planning
Manage complex employee relations issues and escalated disputes, working toward fair, timely, and compliant resolutions
Lead workplace investigations and corrective action processes as needed; ensure consistent application of policies and practices
Oversee and coordinate termination processes to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements, and to reduce organizational risk
Partner with senior leadership and legal advisors on HR-related legal matters to ensure compliance with employment laws and mitigate risk
Proactively monitor regulatory changes and recommend policy or training updates to maintain compliance
Oversee day-to-day payroll administration through direct supervision of the Payroll Specialist
Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, including regular audits for accuracy, coding, policy compliance, and labor law adherence
Serve as escalation point for payroll discrepancies, employee concerns, or complex pay scenarios (bonuses, commissions, retro pay, leave coordination, etc.)
Collaborate with payroll providers and internal finance partners to resolve payroll issues promptly and improve process efficiency
Maintain payroll-related policies, procedures, and training to ensure consistency, compliance, and business continuity
Administer and monitor employee benefits programs including 401(k) plans, Health Savings Accounts (HSA), and related offerings, ensuring effectiveness and compliance
Partner with the VP of HR & Administration and the Training Manager to provide coaching and development support to employees and managers to foster professional growth, performance improvement, and leadership capability
Develop, implement, and periodically review HR policies and procedures to ensure alignment with company goals, culture, and regulatory requirements
Lead or support engagement and retention initiatives that reinforce company values and strengthen workplace culture

Required

Proven experience in HR management in a supervisory role, balancing operational excellence with strategic partnership
Strong knowledge of employment laws, compliance standards, and HR best practices
Experience managing employee relations and handling complex HR issues with sound judgment and discretion
Familiarity and experience with Workday in payroll processes/systems, benefits administration, and retirement plans (401k, HSA)
Demonstrated ability to analyze HR data, identify trends, and recommend action-oriented solutions
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence at multiple levels
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

Preferred

HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus
