Senior Environmental Scientist - Experienced
Energy Renewal Partners (ERP) is seeking a full-time Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team. The role involves leading environmental and permitting analysis and natural resource surveys for energy development projects across the U.S., while also mentoring junior staff and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Lead permitting, planning, siting, regulatory consultation, natural resource surveys, and other tasks associated with development and implementation of energy and development projects
Serve as Technical Lead on complex, multidisciplinary projects
Oversee project scope, budget, and timelines with minimal supervision
Ensure regulatory compliance and technical quality across project deliverables
Provide clients with strategic insight and recommendations
Provide mentorship and training to junior staff, including field methods, reporting standards and career development
Review and approve technical reports and field data collected by others
Delegate tasks appropriately and manage workloads of small teams
Be recognized as a subject matter expert in a specialty area (e.g., NEPA, ESA compliance, wetlands delineations, acoustic bat surveys)
Provide QA/QC reviews and technical guidance for complex studies or assessments
Planning and oversight of safety measures and safe working practices
Lead complex wetland/stream delineations and other fieldwork in diverse and challenging landscapes
Lead protected species habitat assessments and protected species surveys
Characterize vegetation communities and evaluate the presence of habitat for species of concern
Produce Phase I Environmental Site Assessments for large acreage projects
Conduct efficient environmental and permitting compliance reviews of energy projects, identifying red flags and critical issues
Coordinate with state and federal regulators regarding permitting requirements and permitting compliance for energy and development projects
Preparation of applications to regulatory agencies
Writing, reviewing, and editing technical reports
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field
7-10+ years of environmental consulting experience
Detailed knowledge of the Clean Water Act, wetland/stream delineation methods, and Section 404 permitting
Solid understanding of the Endangered Species Act and its application for energy development
Experience conducting environmental fatal flaws/constraints analyses required
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adequately prioritize tasks
Demonstrated planning and implementation skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills to ensure effective communication with coworkers, clients, and regulators
Willingness and ability to conduct overnight travel (on average 40%) for field investigations under potentially challenging environmental conditions
Ability to anticipate problems and collectively work toward solutions
Preferred
Master's degree in related field a plus
Experience with energy and development permitting a plus
