Professional Learning Manager

The Society of Professional Journalists is seeking a Professional Learning Manager to design, coordinate, and deliver professional learning initiatives for journalists at all career stages. This role involves shaping and executing high-impact programs that address emerging trends and member needs in journalism education.

Responsibilities

Design and manage training programs that strengthen journalists’ skills, leadership capacity and professional resilience
Coordinate learning across multiple formats, including webinars, conferences, workshops, cohort-based programs and digital resources
Ensure programming reflects current journalism practices, ethical challenges and newsroom realities
Work closely with SPJ staff, volunteers and committees to support consistent, high-quality professional learning for SPJ members
Facilitate session selection and speaker coordination for SPJ’s national convention
Partner with events staff to align professional learning offerings with logistics and attendee experience
Serve as staff liaison to various committees and initiatives related to professional learning and development
Manage timelines, deliverables and documentation for assigned programs
Track participation, feedback and outcomes to support continuous improvement
Prepare reports and summaries for internal stakeholders and funders as needed
Contribute to strategic conversations related to professional learning and member engagement
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Three or more years of experience designing, coordinating or delivering education, training or professional learning programs
Strong organizational and project-management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Comfort with virtual learning platforms and digital collaboration tools
Willingness to travel occasionally for major events

Preferred

Background in journalism or journalism education or training
Experience with membership or nonprofit organizations
Familiarity with volunteer-driven programs
Experience supporting grants, sponsorships or partnerships
