Responsibilities

Assists with a variety of planning activities involving traffic engineering studies (e.g., prepares and reviews information on highway safety & speed zones; conducts traffic counts; collects & reviews field data; verifies sign locations & pavement marking locations; photographs site of proposed projects; researches & analyzes accidents & traffic signal warrants; participates in field reviews & project scoping)
Becomes familiar with PC based & mainframe CADD systems, Microstation, and various software packages used by the District, in collection of traffic engineering data & the preparation of highway plans
Performs miscellaneous duties to facilitate operational efficiency of work unit (e.g., researches plans and records; assists with necessary record keeping; maintains accurate data of work performed; organizes materials & compiles information to assist in report preparation; attends training)

Required

Must be currently enrolled in a college/university and in good academic standing prior to and during their entire appointment as a college intern
All College Interns are required to provide proof of enrollment, class status, and good academic standing with their college/university prior to beginning employment & throughout their time with ODOT in order to remain employed as a College Intern
Acceptable forms of documentation include an official or unofficial transcript with current class schedule
If a transcript cannot be obtained the student's advisor shall complete & sign the College Intern Verification Form indicating enrollment, class rank & GPA
Rate of pay is based upon the student's academic status (determined by the college or university): Freshman and Sophomore Students - $19.50 per hour, Junior and Senior Students - $20.00 per hour, Graduate Students - $24.00 per hour
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check
All candidates applying for employment opportunities should be authorized to work in the United States
Sponsorship for an employment visa is not currently available for positions with the Ohio Department of Transportation
