Trail Crew Supervisor

NEOGOV is seeking a Trail Crew Supervisor for the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Responsibilities

Work with federal, state and local agencies to accomplish winter and summer trail maintenance and construction
Manage and supervise day to day operations of trail crew members in the field
Manage and assist with operations within snow grooming complexes in the winter months
Carry out fiscal responsibilities within Division policy including making purchases, paying invoices and filling out purchase card reconciliation forms
Ensure that all work is carried out safely and efficiently
Handle performance issues and resolve crew conflict at the ground level communicating through chain of command as necessary
Serve as recruiting and hiring manager for all crew members
Ensure readiness of assigned personnel and crew before work is performed
Obtain briefing from Operations Supervisor regarding areas of work, relevant partners and project details when necessary
Serve as division representative on trail committees and attend pre/post season meetings with a variety of stakeholders
Complete, authorize, ensure timeliness of site-specific safety plans before crew work is performed
Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and update crew SOP manual on an annual basis
Establish and communicate objectives, priorities, work assignments, and performance expectations with each crew member
Identify, analyze, and use relevant situational information to make informed decisions and take appropriate actions regarding crew projects
Provide both classroom and field orientation training for crew members
Perform logistical duties such as purchasing equipment, tools, fuel, safety gear and other miscellaneous items required for trail crew function
Utilize and be familiar with both geospatial information systems and navigational resources to report work performed
Track all work time and ensure reimbursement for each crew member
Perform, supervise and coordinate equipment maintenance on crew carrier vehicles, trailers and Off-highway Vehicles
Work with partners to evaluate satisfaction and quality of work
Conduct After Action Reviews, crew performance evaluations and project briefings
Monitor daily performance and provide immediate and regular feedback to crew personnel
Allow for and provide training and career development opportunities for subordinates
Other duties as assigned

Required

Must be 21 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
Must have a current and valid Utah driver's license
Ability to lead a crew and carry out field work unsupervised
Ability to work with crewmembers, partners, and volunteers through effective communication
Ability to keep up with physically demanding duties as assigned
Ability to work in the backcountry in adverse weather conditions along with crew for multiple days
Applicants must successfully pass a criminal history background check upon hire
Ability to communicate effectively and respectively both orally and in writing
Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
Regular and reliable attendance and dependability
Ability to adapt to changing conditions or work assignments
Ability to travel the state and camping in remote locations
Willingness to learn new skills or techniques

Preferred

Specialized trail building and maintenance experience
Previous experience working within snow grooming complexes
Knowledge and use of proper safety protocols associated with trail work
UTV/ATV/OHM experience in harsh/remote trails
Experience writing training materials
Working knowledge of chainsaw operations equivalent to Faller A
Certification in operating and maintaining trail dozer and mini excavator
Knowledge of Off-highway vehicle operations
