Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer

The City of New York is seeking a Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Fire Department, the largest and busiest emergency response agency in the world. The CDIO will develop and implement diversity strategies, foster an inclusive workplace culture, and collaborate with various city departments to ensure compliance with diversity requirements.

Responsibilities

Developing and implementing strategies around fostering an inclusive workplace culture
Designing diversity and inclusion efforts agency-wide, with particular focus on the uniformed staff
Serving as a liaison to employee affinity organizations at the FDNY
Work extensively with the Department for Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the Law Department to comply with City requirements specific to diversity
Serving as a member of FDNY's leadership team
Working collaboratively across the agency as well as with city-wide diversity best practice groups, to monitor and implement diversity initiatives

Required

Proven record of success in diversity and inclusion efforts
Ability to develop and implement strategies for fostering an inclusive workplace culture
Experience designing diversity and inclusion efforts agency-wide, particularly for uniformed staff
Ability to serve as a liaison to employee affinity organizations
Experience working with the Department for Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the Law Department to comply with City diversity requirements
Strong leadership skills to effectuate agency-wide policies and procedures
Exceptional analytical skills
Strong communication skills
Familiarity with laws and regulations related to EEO
Knowledge of investigatory practices
Working knowledge of mediation and alternate dispute practices

Preferred

Certifications as a diversity and inclusion, or labor relations or human resources professional
Memberships in best practices organizations
Professional experience in the military or with a uniformed force
