Floating Shift Supervisor

Responsibilities
Assist with oversight of plant operations, including startup, shutdown, and safe operation of the biomass boiler, turbine generator, emissions control systems (hot precipitator, SCR), wood fuel handling systems, and auxiliary systems
Provide shift coverage at the Franklin Biomass Facility as needed and at the Madison Biomass Facility on an as-needed basis, ensuring safe, compliant operations, supporting personnel, and maintaining system performance
Ensure site safety, environmental compliance, and adherence to operational procedures by identifying hazards, conducting plant tours, monitoring emissions, and managing ash; write and update operating procedures to maintain compliance with plant operations, maintenance, and environmental regulations
Serve as lead system representative for assigned systems and maintain shift logs and reports, including fuel usage, production output, outages, repairs, performance indices, and biomass feedstock quality
Review chemical and emissions monitoring results, direct corrective actions, and coordinate electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance under the Maintenance Manager’s guidance
Monitor daily consumption and inventory of wood biomass fuel, chemicals, water, and other consumables, ensuring proper replenishment and safe storage
Ensure proper switching, tagging, and lockout of equipment per approved procedures and industry best practices
Plan, direct, and supervise preventive and corrective maintenance on all systems, including boilers, turbines, fuel handling systems, and emissions controls
Support the Operations Manager in departmental administration and plant management; provide feedback to employees to ensure compliance with procedures and environmental standards
Assist in orientation, training, and development of O&M Technicians, including preparing lesson plans, handouts, visual aids, exams, and biomass-specific qualification standards
Provide technical and administrative guidance to Operations and Maintenance Managers while coordinating with on-site personnel and external stakeholders; participate in recruiting, screening, interviewing, and selecting candidates, and maintain related logs and reports
Represent the company in interactions with the public, power customers, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other parties, supporting administration, engineering, and maintenance
Perform other duties as assigned by plant management
Qualification
Required
Associate degree in engineering, power plant technology, or a related technical field is desired, providing a solid foundation for understanding biomass plant operations and management. Equivalent industry or military experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis
Demonstrated leadership in directing plant operations with a focus on safety, efficiency, and team coordination; experience in biomass, solid-fuel, or boiler-based power systems preferred
Proven track record as a Control Room Operator (CRO), skilled in real-time monitoring, responding to alarms, and maintaining operational reliability; CRO qualification preferred
Strong knowledge of biomass power plant systems, including boilers, turbines, emissions controls, and mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components, with a thorough understanding of safety procedures, environmental regulations, and emergency response
Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining plant equipment—such as boilers, valves, motors, generators, fuel handling systems, and emissions control equipment—with experience in chemical handling, water treatment, and condition monitoring
Skilled in interpreting technical documentation, including mechanical and electrical drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and fuel handling schematics
Proficient in writing, reviewing, and revising operating procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and operational best practices
Excellent communication skills to conduct plant tours, provide direction to employees, report status to management, and collaborate effectively with various departments, contractors, and stakeholders
Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times

Experience in biomass, solid-fuel, or boiler-based power systems preferred
CRO qualification preferred
