Responsibilities

Advise employers on workforce regulatory compliance, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA/CFRA, PDL, WARN, NLRA, FLSA, state wage-hour laws, and anti-harassment policies
Develop and implement preventive compliance programs, anti-harassment and retaliation policies, handbooks, separation agreements, and training programs
Conduct internal investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or other workplace misconduct; prepare investigation reports and recommended corrective actions
Manage a balanced caseload of administrative agency matters, state and federal court litigation, and alternative dispute resolution
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and trial/appeal strategies
Handle all phases of discovery, depositions, hearings, and trials with direct client involvement as appropriate
Liaise with clients, experts, and opposing counsel; supervise and mentor junior associates and paralegals
Advise clients on wage and hour issues, classifications, independent contractor regulations, and compensation structures
Assist with employee onboarding/offboarding processes and workplace policies, including remote/hybrid work policies
Draft and review employee handbooks, policies, separation agreements, non-compete/non-solicitation clauses (where enforceable), and arbitration agreements
Develop case strategies, risk assessments, and budget estimates; monitor spend and timelines
Prepare for hearings, mediation, and trial; participate in negotiations and settlements when appropriate
Contribute to thought leadership, client seminars, and training sessions
Collaborate with partners to identify new business opportunities and cross-sell practice areas
Maintain and grow client relationships through high-quality service and delivery

Required

Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school; admitted to practice in California
3-5 years of relevant labor and employment experience, including litigation and/or counseling work
Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws (EEOC, DOL, NLRB, relevant state equivalents) and practical application to client situations
Experience with wage-hour issues, employee classifications, leaves, accommodations, worker's compensation (as applicable), and HR best practices
Demonstrated success managing complex matters with minimal supervision and ability to handle multiple deadlines
Excellent analytical, research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport with clients, colleagues, and staff; comfortable presenting to groups
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle pressure, and adapt to changing priorities
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace

Preferred

Trial experience and/or experience with administrative agency proceedings is a plus
