Responsibilities
Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns tasks and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations
Coaches, trains and motivates staff; coordinates and/or provides staff training; provides general advice and counsel to staff; and may assist and/or provide input in the development of developmental staff work plans
Supervises and oversees operators in the field; ensures the assigned jobs are done thoroughly and completely, according to plans and specifications; oversees various special projects and ensures proper staffing; and coordinates and manages equipment breakdowns and other issues occurring in the field
Oversees and maintains surfaced and un-surfaced roads such asphalt, gravel, dirt, and intersections; constructs and maintains culverts, bridges, and erosion control; installs corrugated metal pipe and end sections; back fills and compacts structures; constructs and maintains streams, channels, water ways, and ditches; and loads, hauls, and stockpiles aggregates and other materials used on road surfaces
Maintains and tracks equipment service and repairs when they are due and necessary; ensures operators maintain and keep up with the service on their equipment; and coordinates with mechanics concerning repairs
Operates heavy equipment including loaders, graders, backhoes, scrapers, tandems, water trucks, and various hand tools such as chainsaw, hedge trimmer, cutoff saw, shovels, sledge hammer, impact wrench, air compressor and grease gun; and performs traffic control when needed to insure public safety
Removes snow and de-ices road ways; operate snow and ice removal equipment as necessary to ensure safe roadways
Assists the supervisor in tracking of annual leave and sick time; prepares time sheets when necessary; obtains estimated and price quotes from various vendors for equipment and supplies needed to perform day to day jobs
Maintains records and logs via paper and computer to assist with work projects; enters and notifies New Mexico One Call of projects; tracks and monitors daily projects; utilizes work order tracking system; conducts weekly RAP training; creates other related documents and letters as necessary or required
Keeps in contact and communicates with supervisor, operators, and field technicians using telephone, hand held radios, two way radios, and e-mail
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma/GED Certification from an accredited institution
Three years of experience in road maintenance, repair, and construction and heavy equipment operation that includes one year of staff supervisory experience
Valid New Mexico Commercial driver's license (CDL) or the ability to obtain a valid New Mexico Commercial driver's license (CDL) within 90 days of hire
Ability to maintain a valid New Mexico Commercial driver's license (CDL)
Successful completion of pre-employment alcohol and drug testing is required
